Model Context Protocol (MCP)

Short Blog: What is MCP?

Suppose you have an AI assistant that can answer questions, but it can’t directly access your files, databases or business applications. That's where MCP comes to the rescue.

MCP is an open standard that allows AI applications to connect to external tools, data sources and services.

Like a USB-C port for AI, it allows AI applications to talk to different systems without having to build a whole new integration for each connection.

For example, you could ask an AI assistant to review your project documents. The application can pull the relevant documents from an MCP server and pass the content to the LLM to produce a summary.

Conclusion

MCP connects AI models with external tools, making AI assistants more connected, capable and useful for real world applications. As AI continues to evolve, MCP can help to enable smarter and more integrated AI experiences.
